Qualifications

As a passionate, interdisciplinary researcher and educator with 32 years of experience in academic health centers; authored or co-authored more than 175 scientific manuscripts in peer reviewed journals; mentored 90+ master and doctoral level students and more than 200 junior faculty across the health sciences; core faculty in a Research and Statistical Consult Center; and, taught graduate level classes in research methods, clinical trials, biostatistics and clinical reasoning.

Accomplishments

Collaborated with medical, dental, basic science and psychology colleagues on NIH funded interdisciplinary research projects as methodologist and statistician, and co-mentor for a K23 project. Results: Six ambitious projects obtained more than $12M in funding and resulted in numerous manuscripts in prestigious journals.

As Director of a Clinical Research Center at an Academic Dental Center engaged broad faculty, used creative team building, strategic planning and excellent organization to successfully obtain and conduct clinical trials. Results: Obtained more than $3M in sponsored clinical research over a 10 year period and successfully trained colleagues for successful transition.

As inaugural Chairperson of Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics, developed a multidisciplinary graduate program in Informatics with emphases in Clinical Research, Computational Informatics and Genomic Informatics. Results: This robust program successfully trained and graduated 43 students with M.S. in Informatics and/or Graduate Clinical Research Certificates in 5 years, and currently has on average 25 MS and 7 PhD students actively enrolled each year.
